80 Years on the Leading Edge
The names, the products, have changed
over the years but one key element has
remained consistent throughout. Our
focus on the future. Our commitment to
being first with technology, and the
products, that will lead the market into
tomorrow.
With roots in two companies–Mall Tool
Company and Master Consolidated–DESA
today is the synthesis of a succession
of innovative product ideas,
improvements and strategic acquisitions
spanning some 80 years.
Founded in the 1920s, Mall Tool Company
pioneered the development and
introduction of gas and electrically
operated power tools. In 1956, Mall Tool
was acquired by the Remington Arms
Corporation and renamed the Remington
Power Tool Division. In, 1969, a group
of entrepreneurs purchased the Remington
Power Tool Division and named the
company DESA Industries. New products
were added and, within six years, sales
grew fourfold. This rapid growth caught
the attention of AMCA International,
which acquired DESA in 1975.
Master Consolidated played a leading
role in the introduction of portable
forced air heating during the 1950s.
Later acquired by the Koehring Company
under the Atomaster name in 1975. In
1980, Koehring, and the Atomaster
Division, became part of the AMCA
family.
In, 1981, as a result of the strong
consumer and market compatibility
between Atomaster and DESA, both
operations were combined by AMCA into
its new Consumer Products Division.
In March 1985, Consumer Products
Management purchased the assets of the
Division and formed DESA International.
During the intervening decades DESA has
grown rapidly through a combination of
internal product development and the
acquisition of complementary zone
heating and specialty tool product
lines. Included in those acquisitions
was the Heath/Zenith brand of motion and
security lights and wireless doorbell
technology in 1998. The Firewerks Log
brand from Wade Ceramics as well as the
All-Pro and Universal outdoor heating
brands of Scheu Products Company in
2004.
By growing its brands and markets, the
new twenty-first century DESA continues
to make strides into the future while
maintaining a link to the roots of its
past. |
